Jarran Reed says young Seahawks D-line knows they have something to prove: ‘We’ll stay humble and we’ll stay hungry’

Following the departure of Pro Bowl players Cliff Avril, Michael Bennett, and Sheldon Richardson, the Seahawks’ younger defensive lineman are eager to prove they can still be a force. Among them is defensive tackle Jarran Reed, who joined Bob Stelton and Tom Wassell on 710 ESPN Seattle Thursday to talk about the mentality of Seattle’s new-look D-line.

“I feel like we’ve got a lot to pick up, a lot to prove to everybody,” Reed said. “We’ve got (big) shoes to fill. And we’re all ready for that task. Not just myself, everybody else can go out there on Sundays and do what we’re supposed to do. We’re gonna do our job. We don’t want to let the 12s down, we don’t want to let ourselves down, nor our coaches. So we’re going in there ready to play.”
Despite Reed’s determination, the Seahawks face their share of doubters. Seattle was given its longest Super Bowl odds since 2012 and a recent USA Today article has them pegged as a 4-12 team.
“It’s definitely motivation,” Reed said of the narrative. “But at the end of the day it’s all talk. It’s just all talk to me. Because at the same time, everybody has to go out on that field. They put their pads on just like we do. No matter big names, small names; it’s just a name at the end of the day. And we work our tails off, man. And whoever doesn’t respect, they just don’t respect… They’ll just have to see it and watch what’s going to happen and unfold. I’ll tell you man, we’re ready. We definitely have a chip on our shoulder and we do have something to prove, but we’ll work in silence, we’ll stay humble, and we’ll stay hungry.”
