Robinson Canó is back with the Seattle Mariners, both playing a brand new position and hitting in a different spot in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the A’s.

Stelton: Canó returns, but he’s not the only bat the M’s should bring back

Canó has been penciled in to play first base and hit second in Tuesday’s 7:05 p.m. game in Oakland, which will air live on 710 ESPN Seattle.

An eight-time All-Star at second base who was Seattle’s usual No. 3 hitter, Canó worked on adding positional flexibility while out during his 80-game suspension for violating the MLB’s drug policy. During a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma and Single-A Everett, he played first, second and third base.

With Canó hitting second, Jean Segura remains in the No. 3 spot, with Mitch Haniger leading off. Dee Gordon is back at second base after sitting out Monday’s game to nurse a nagging injury.

The Mariners also have moved left fielder Denard Span into fifth in the order, bumping Kyle Seager to No. 6.

James Paxton is on the mound, while Oakland will start recent acquisition Mike Fiers.

Coverage begins at 6 p.m. on 710 ESPN Seattle with the pregame show. Here is the Mariners’ full lineup:

Mariners (69-51)

Mitch Haniger, RF
Robinson Canó, 1B
Jean Segura, SS
Nelson Cruz, DH
Denard Span, LF
Kyle Seager, 3B
Mike Zunino, C
