Robinson Canó is back.

Well, not entirely. He’s not eligible to return to the Seattle Mariners from his 80-game suspension for another week. But he did take part in an organized game for the first time since May, starting a rehab assignment with the Mariners’ Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma on Monday night.

Table Setter: Now, more than ever, the Mariners need Kyle Seager

Not only was Canó back, he was playing a position nobody in Seattle had ever seen him play before: first base.

So how did he do?

Hey, that didn’t look too bad.

OK, now what about the bat? Does he have some rust to shake off in the box?

That was the lone hit of the night for Canó, who finished 1 for 3 with a walk at the plate. He saw a considerable amount of action defensively, and the reports on his debut at first are that it was a success.

Next up, Canó is expected to be Tacoma’s designated hitter on Tuesday, but he is also supposed to see time at second and even third base (likely with the Single-A Everett AquaSox) before his rehab assignment is done.

Moore: Maybe Canó will be cure for what ails Mariners
