RENTON – Defensive end Dion Jordan isn’t expected to practice any time soon.

That’s definitely bad news for a pass rush that was already a question mark for the Seahawks.

The good news is that the injury Jordan has is not to the knee that has already required multiple surgeries.

“He’s got a stress issue on his other leg,” coach Pete Carroll said Tuesday of Jordan. “We’ve just got to wait it out.”

That’s not very promising. Jordan is currently on Seattle’s Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Seattle can activate him from that list any time between now and Sept. 2, the date NFL rosters must be trimmed to 53 players. If a player remains on the PUP list after that date, he must miss at least the first six games.

Jordan had four sacks in the five games he played last season after missing the first half of the season recovering from knee surgery. Jordan’s performance those final two months had the Seahawks hoping he’d be ready to help fill the pass-rushing void left by the trade of Michael Bennett and release of Cliff Avril. That’s now in limbo.

“It’s going to be a while,” Carroll said of the timeline for Jordan’s return. “He’s got a little bit of healing to do so it’s going to be a while.”

That leaves Marcus Smith – who missed Tuesday’s practice with a sore hamstring – and newly signed Barkevious Mingo as leading considerations to start opposite Frank Clark, though Carroll also singled out rookie Jacob Martin, who was drafted out of Temple.

“He’s shown a lot of burst, and a lot of intensity with his rush,” Carroll said of Martin. “Those four guys may be the guys that make up the speed rush until Dion is part of that as well.”

Seahawks to take it slow with Doug Baldwin

Doug Baldwin has not practiced the past three days because of a sore knee, and don’t expect him to be practicing the next few days, either.

“We’re going to give him a couple of weeks here before we bring him back out,” Carroll said, “to make sure that we’ve ramped him back up properly. He came into camp a little bit off, and we just want to make sure that we take care of him.”

Carroll didn’t indicate any uncertainty regarding Baldwin’s availability when the regular season starts in Denver in September.

“We know exactly what’s going on,” Carroll said. “He’s doing some special treatments to make sure that we’re taking care of him, and we want to bring him back in shape so he’s really ready for the long haul.”

Note

• WR David Moore has missed the past two practices because of a sore hip flexor.
