On Tuesday morning, Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto told 710 ESPN Seattle’s Brock and Salk that he still had a “couple of lines in the water” looking for extra offensive versatility before the 1 p.m. MLB trade deadline.

The Miami Marlins bit.

The Mariners have traded for veteran outfielder Cameron Maybin, sending minor league infielder Bryson Brigman and international slot money to Miami in exchange. The move was first reported by Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times. The Mariners announced the trade shortly after the deadline.

Maybin, 31, is hitting .251 with three home runs, eight stolen bases and a .338 on-base percentage this year. A solid defender in the outfield, the right-handed hitting Maybin will also be an upgrade at the plate over center fielder Guillermo Heredia, who is hitting just .229 with a .314 on-base percentage.

With Maybin joining the team, the Mariners add some valuable experience and versatility to go with Mitch Haniger, Denard Span, Ben Gamel and Heredia in the outfield.

The Mariners will be the seventh MLB franchise of Maybin’s career. He was a similar late addition last season for Houston, helping the Astros win their first World Series. With Houston and the Angels in 2017, he hit just .228 but stole 33 bases. A career .255 hitter, the 11-year MLB vet will be a free agent at the end of the season.

The Maybin trade is the fourth since last Friday for Dipoto and served as the final Mariners move before the non-waiver trade deadline.
