Stelton: The one return that will be key for the Mariners in second half

Jul 19, 2018, 1:13 PM

The Mariners enter the second half of the baseball season on a four-game losing streak and losers of eight of their 11. Not only that, the Oakland Athletics caught fire towards the end of the first half and sit just three games behind Seattle in the wild card race.

Good news, bad news, no news: M’s to use Canó at 1B upon return

So what’s gone wrong?

Bob Stelton of 710 ESPN Seattle’s Bob, Groz and Tom says it has to do with both hitting and pitching. And while he believes the hitting will be able to right the ship, there’s somebody who was on the disabled list for the losing streak who might have a big impact on the pitching staff upon returning: catcher Mike Zunino.

In the attached video, Stelton explains why he thinks Zunino will be a key for the Mariners down the stretch despite his sub-.200 batting average.
