The Mariners wrapped up a seven-game homestand with Sunday’s 9-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox, but the good news about their upcoming road trip is that they will have two players back from the 10-day disabled list and could have a third following soon.

Right-handed reliever Juan Nicasio, who hit the DL on June 8 with a right knee effusion, was activated Monday ahead of a three-game set in New York, where the Mariners are starting a series against the Yankees on Tuesday. Catcher Chris Herrmann (oblique) has also been activated after completing a minor league rehab assignment.

Righty reliever Nick Vincent, who was placed on the DL on May 27 due to a right groin strain, is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Monday. If all goes well after throwing with the Rainiers, he will go to Double-A Arkansas for one more rehab outing. Mariners manager Scott Servais said Sunday that Vincent could re-join the Mariners in Boston, where they will start a three-game set next Friday.

To make room for Nicasio and Herrmann on the active roster, the Mariners optioned pitcher Rob Whalen and catcher David Freitas to Triple-A Tacoma. Whalen threw four scoreless innings in relief for the Mariners in a 7-6 win over the Red Sox last Friday, allowing just one hit and one walk. Freitas went 3 for 14 with two runs and an RBI in three games over his latest stint up with the M’s.
