The Mariners lost a bit of bullpen depth Friday, with right-handed reliever Erik Goeddel being claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Coincidentally enough, the Dodgers also signed Tyler Goeddel, Erik’s younger brother, to a minor-league contract on Thursday.
Erik Goeddel allowed just one run over 7 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts and walks in five games for Seattle this season.
The 29-year-old Goeddel was designated for assignment Wednesday to make room for Christian Bergman on the Mariners’ active roster. The Mariners had hoped to retain Goeddel’s rights, but due to him being out of minor league options, he needed to clear waivers for Seattle to be able to send him to Triple-A.
Bergman made a spot start against Texas, throwing seven scoreless innings and being optioned back to Triple-A Tacoma after the game. With Bergman sent back down, Ryan Cook was called up to take a spot in the bullpen. He made his Mariners debut in Thursday night’s 3-2 loss to Detroit, throwing 1 1/3 perfect innings with a strikeout.
