The Mariners have acquired right-handed reliever Chance Ruffin to complete their July 30 trade with the Detroit Tigers, the team announced on Wednesday.

Ruffin will be available for Wednesday’s game against the Blue Jays. To make room on the 25-man roster, the team designated left-handed reliever Aaron Laffey for assignment.

Ruffin, 22, was a supplemental first-round pick (No. 48 overall) in the 2010 draft out of the University of Texas. He has split time this season between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo. In 13 games with Toledo, Ruffin was 9-of-10 in save opportunities with a 1.84 ERA.

He made a pair of relief appearances for the Tigers earlier this season, allowing two earned runs (both on solo home runs) in 3 2-3 innings.

Baseball America ranked Ruffin as the Tigers’ seventh-best prospect.

A day before the trade deadline, the Mariners sent pitchers Doug Fister and David Pauley to the Tigers in exchange for outfielder Casper Wells, left-handed pitcher Charlie Furbush, infielder Francisco Martinez and a player to be named later.

Laffey, 26, went 1-1 with a 4.01 ERA in 36 games for the Mariners this season.
