On the Seahawks’ interest in DE John Abraham

John Abraham, one of three veteran pass rushers we’ve discussed here as potential options for the Seahawks, is reportedly planning to visit with Seattle.

The other two, Osi Umenyiora and Dwight Freeney, will have to wait until free agency begins next week before meeting with other teams. John Clayton thinks the Seahawks have “significant interest” in all three, which runs counter to coach Pete Carroll’s stated desire to fill their need for a pass rusher via the draft.

“These are the type of guys they’re going to sign in free agency,” Clayton told “Bob and Groz” on Thursday. “Pete’s not as concerned about the age, he’s more concerned about the play, and Abraham, despite that bad finish with the ankle, still played very well last year.”

Abraham, 34, had 10 sacks in 2012, marking his third straight season with at least 9.5 sacks. The Falcons reduced his snaps in an attempt to maintain his health. An ankle injury slowed him in the playoffs.

Bob Stelton and Dave Grosby offer more thoughts on Abraham and the Seahawks in the video below.

You can listen to Thursday’s podcast here.
