The Mariners’ upcoming road trip will sound a little different. That’s because Rick Rizzs will miss his first road trip in 32 years as a member of Seattle’s broadcast team.

Rizzs, 64, will undergo surgery Friday to repair his left biceps, an injury he suffered, ironically enough, in the same pickup basketball game that fellow Mariners announcer Dave Sims ruptured his Achilles tendon in during an off day in Minnesota April 6.
With Rizzs out for the 10-game road trip, Gary Hill will take over as the main play-by-play man on 710 ESPN Seattle broadcasts, with former Mariners pitcher Ryan Rowland-Smith joining the booth as color commentator.
Aaron Goldsmith, who is Rizzs’ usual partner on 710 ESPN Seattle, will continue to fill in for Sims on ROOT Sports broadcasts along with color man Mike Blowers.
