Stelton: Nelson Cruz continues to pay off as best signing in Mariners history
Apr 17, 2018, 1:44 PM
With the Mariners down 1-0 against a tough pitcher on his game Monday night (Houston’s Dallas Keuchel), Nelson Cruz did something he had done 138 times before in three-plus seasons for the Mariners.
He hit a home run.
Cruz’s latest homer was a line-drive shot that found its way into the Astros’ bullpen, tying a game that the Mariners went on to win 2-1. It was third home run already this season, which ties the 37-year-old DH for third on the team even though he’s played only five games due to a short disabled list stint. The rest of the Mariners regulars have played 14 games, by the way.
Count that all as just more evidence that helps the argument by 710 ESPN Seattle’s Bob Stelton that Cruz is the greatest free agent signing the Mariners have made — ever.
In the video above, Stelton talks about what has made Cruz’s addition in 2015 more important than other notable signings in Mariners history.
