All Pro safety Earl Thomas was absent from the first day of Seahawks’ voluntary workouts Monday, according to 710 ESPN Seattle’s Brock Huard.
“Earl was not there,” Huard said to open Brock and Salk Tuesday morning. “I can confirm Earl was a no-go when it came to at least the first day of these offseason workouts.”
Huard added that, while he’s been critical of players who have missed voluntary workouts in the past, he understands the complexity of Thomas’ situation in Seattle. Thomas is reportedly on the trading block and could be part of trade before the NFL Draft, which kicks off in nine days.
“Unlike, to be honest with you, Michael Bennett or some of the guys [who have missed a voluntary workout] over the years, I do have a little bit of grace and a little bit of understanding as to why he’s not here,” Huard said. “Because he doesn’t really know his situation. And he, like Richard Sherman last offseason, who was on the trade market, there’s no doubt Earl is on the trade market. So I can’t quite hammer him the same way we have some of these other fellas over the years.
“I think with Earl here, there’s a whole lot for him and this team to sort out.”
The Cowboys have remained the rumored frontrunner for Thomas (the Seahawks have been, unsurprisingly, quiet about which teams have shown interest in a potential trade). Here’s a bit more information on that.
