After tying for the MLB spring training lead in home runs this year, it was only a matter of time before Daniel Vogelbach would connect on his first homer in a regular season game in the majors.

That home run came on Friday night for the Mariners first baseman/designated hitter.

Just moments after Mitch Haniger delivered a go-ahead three-run homer, Vogelbach tacked on some insurance for Seattle in the seventh inning of its 7-4 victory over the A’s, clubbing a shot over the wall in right field.

Vogelbach didn’t appear to fit in the Mariners’ plans for the 25-man roster entering spring, but he was the standout of Cactus League play for them, sitting atop the spring leaderboards with a .407 average, .529 on-base percentage and .926 slugging percentage, and tying for the lead with seven home runs. That earned him a spot on the opening day roster, and he’s played well enough to justify the nod.

Entering Saturday, Vogelbach is hitting .222 with a .300 OBP, four RBIs, and, yes, one home run.
