The Mariners are 2 for 2 so far this season playing in home openers. On Thursday, they go for No. 3.

Blowers: ‘Hitters have had no chance’ against Edwin Diaz

James Paxton will be on the mound for Seattle as it looks to spoil the Twins’ first game this season at Target Field in Minneapolis, just like the M’s did on Tuesday with a 6-4 win over the Giants in San Francisco. The Mariners also won their own home opener on opening night a week ago.

In the Mariners’ lineup will be Mitch Haniger again hitting cleanup in place of the injured Nelson Cruz, Daniel Vogelbach at DH, and David Freitas catching Paxton.

The Twins will counter with right-hander Kyle Gibson as their starting pitcher.

Temperatures are plenty cold in Minnesota, where there was nine inches of snow on the field as of yesterday. Shannon Drayer has more on what to expect during the Mariners’ four-day, three-game stay in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Thursday’s game coverage begins at noon with the pregame show on 710 ESPN Seattle, followed by first pitch at 1:10.
