Mariners’ Mike Marjama opens up about eating disorder struggle in short

Mariners catcher Mike Marjama is using his platform as a major league baseball player to raise awareness on something not typically associated with pro athletes: eating disorders.
In a documentary short released Wednesday by UNINTERRUPTED, an “all-digital sports programming network” telling stories “from the athlete’s perspective,” Marjama opens up about his struggle with anorexia and bulimia.

In the video, the 28-year-old Marjama discloses how his eating order started in junior high and eventually resulted in him being put in an inpatient program as a junior in high school.
Marjama was acquired by the Mariners from the Tampa Bay Rays last year and made his MLB debut with Seattle in September. He made the M’s roster out of spring training and will be Mike Zunino’s backup catcher on opening night Thursday.
