"There was mutual interest on both sides," former UW standout Austin Seferian-Jenkins said of his visit with the Seahawks.

Washington state native and former Huskies’ tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins joined Gee Scott on 710 ESPN Seattle Friday to talk about his venture into free agency.

The newest Jags’ tight end discussed his conversation with Pete Carroll and John Schneider, his workouts with Seahawks linebackers Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright, and the path he took toward sobriety.

Seferian-Jenkins had a strong interest in playing for the Seahawks, but ultimately signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“I made sure Seattle was my first visit,” Seferian-Jenkins said of his visit with the Sesahawks. “There was mutual interest on both sides, but it’s a numbers game, as we all know, and it just didn’t work out that way. That doesn’t mean that closes the door for the future or anything like that, but I’m really, really happy to be (in Jacksonville).”

Seferian-Jenkins also talked about his sobriety; it’s been 419 days since he has stopped drinking alcohol.

“Everyone takes different courses and paths in life, and you make certain choices in life that affect you. And unfortunately I made poor choices growing up, and I made mistakes like every other person has in life, and I got caught and I got in trouble — rightfully so —  but it’s just really taken a hold of my life … this life we live is so much bigger than football, it’s so much bigger than a lot of things we concern ourselves with. It’s a journey and it’s an experience finding yourself… I’m comfortable with who I am, what I am… this has been a very, very humbling road.”
