PEORIA, Ariz. – The MRI on Robinson Cano’s left hamstring revealed a mild grade 1 strain that should not keep him from games for long.

“All positive,” Mariners manager Scott Servais on Monday, a day after Cano pulled himself from Seattle’s Cactus League game vs. Cincinnati. “I don’t think it is going to bother him at all. To Robbie’s credit, he felt something right away, let’s not push it, let’s not stay in here, let’s get out and let it calm down. He did the right thing.”

Cano will be shut down for 2-3 days and then should work toward getting back in games.

“It’s just that scar tissue from last year,” said Cano, who dealt with a hamstring issue last August. “Just got a little bit of a tear in there. I would say five to seven days (before returning to games). Not rush.”

Cano indicated the hamstring was not bothering him as he went through everyday activity in the clubhouse Monday afternoon, and tightness was in the same area of the strain that caused him to miss a start against the Yankees last August. He got back quickly then and believes he will do the same now.

“Now I am going to go out and make that better,” he said. “I think you just strengthen it and go from there.”

Cano joins the Mariners’ long list of players that have been slowed or are coming back from injury that are expected to be ready for the start of the season (or shortly after). Felix Hernandez (arm contusion) will throw a bullpen Tuesday, which will get him closer to returning to games, and fellow starting pitcher Erasmo Ramirez (lat strain) has started his throwing program. First baseman Ryon Healy, who had the brakes put on him coming back from hand surgery last week, is upping the activity in the batting cages and should take BP Wednesday.

“Healy’s doing much better,” Servais said. “A couple of days of that under his belt and we will see what is happening.”

The original prognosis for Healy to get back into games after having a bone spur removed from his hand was 4-6 weeks, and Wednesday is the four-week mark. While he is by no means behind in his recovery and it is possible that he could get ready in 7-10 games, not having to rush him at the start of the season is a luxury the Mariners will no doubt take. With just 13 days of games remaining in spring training as of today, it is looking less likely that we will see Healy on opening day.
