Mariners add OF depth, signing Junior Lake to minor league deal

The Mariners added depth to their outfield on Wednesday morning, agreeing with Junior Lake on a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Junior Lake has passed his physical and is now official. Mariners sign him to a minor league deal.

Lake, who will turn 28 next month, has made appearances with three teams over four MLB seasons. He played in a career-high 108 major league games with the Cubs in 2014, hitting .211/.246/.351 with nine home runs, 10 doubles, three triples, 25 RBIs, 30 runs scored and seven stolen bases over 326 plate appearances.

He spent 2017 playing for the Pawtucket Red Sox, Boston’s Triple-A affiliate, and he’s coming off a strong showing in the Dominican Winter League with Oriente, hitting .283 with three homers, four doubles, eight RBIs, 21 runs scored and five stolen bases in 33 games.
The Mariners’ 40-man roster currently features five outfielders: Dee Gordon, Mitch Haniger, Ben Gamel, Guillermo Heredia and Cameron Perkins.
