Bob Nightengale of USA Today is reporting that Felix Hernandez has agreed to a seven-year, $175 million dollar contract with the Mariners that should be finalized in the next week.

Negotiations heated up in the past week with Felix’s agents coming to town and Jack Zduriencik returning from Arizona to meet with them. The deal when completed will be the largest deal for a pitcher in baseball history and will lock Felix in with the Mariners through the 2019 season.

Hernandez will be just 33 years old at the end of the contract and will reach 10 and 5 rights just two years in, effectively giving him a full no-trade clause at that point.

An announcement is most likely still at least a few days away as Hernandez will most likely need to undergo an extensive physical before the deal is complete.
