More moves and let’s play 2

The Mariners have made more moves this morning and I would anticipate even more later today. Alex Liddi has been optioned to Tacoma while John Hicks, Ronny Paulino and Stefen Romero have been re-assigned to minor-league camp.

Hicks and Romero in particular leave having made very good impressions in their first big-league camp. When healthy, Romero has the look of someone who could push anyone struggling on the big club at first, second or third. Hicks catches beautifully and showed something with the bat as well. He is very athletic, not just for a catcher, and there will be some thought of perhaps giving him some experience at another position where he wouldn’t be blocked by Mike Zunino. He is one to definitely keep an eye on.

Two games today, one against the Angels in Tempe at 1:05 and the other an exhibition game against The Netherlands.

Game 1 lineup:

Saunders 7
Franklin 4
Ibanez DH
Smoak 3
Montero 2
Morban 9
Triunfel 6
Catricala 5
Martinez 8

Bonderman

Game 2 vs. The Netherlands:

Bay DH
Ackley 4
Wells 8
Peguero 9
Shoppach 2
Thames 7
Andino 5
Jacobs 3
Miller 6

Garland

The night game will be broadcast on 710 ESPN Seattle.

Once again no Gutierrez, who has not been in a lineup since last Friday. He has had some tightness in his legs, which I am told they are not worried about but they are taking no chances with him, so they have held him out.
