3:40 update. Jack Zduriencik, Eric Wedge and Carl Willis were in a closed door meeting for over an hour this afternoon in Wedge’s office after which they called Jon Garland in for a quick word. I am hearing that a decision has not been made and may not be made until tomorrow morning.

1:15 update. I just spoke with Garland in the clubhouse and he has yet to talk to anyone in the organization about what happens next. He expects to do that shortly. I asked specifically if he has opted out yet and he said no.

Just a quick note and lineup before I head into the clubhouse. We are all expecting a decision on whether or not Jon Garland is in this rotation today but there is a chance we may not know anything until tomorrow. Garland can force the Mariners to make a decision by opting out as soon as today and from what he said last night, that most likely has happened already. The team then has 24 hours to make a decision.

This is kind of an interesting situation in that the team probably will not make an official announcement on Garland until the end of spring training because at that point a 40-man roster move will be need to be made.

Lineup vs the Padres

Gutierrez DH
Seager 5
Morales 3
Morse 7
Wells 9
Bay 8
Ackley 4
Shoppach 2
Ryan 6

Felix

Bay back in center as he didn’t get a play last night. Shoppach catching Felix for the second time in a game and Gutierrez back at leadoff.
