7:50 update: Randy Adamack, the Mariners’ senior vice president of communications, has just given me the following statement: “Obviously we are aware of what was reported on ESPN.com. The Mariners remain fully supportive of the Major League Baseball Drug Prevention and Treatment program and MLB is now handling the matter.”
ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” is reporting that Major League Baseball will look to suspend about 20 players, including Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun, who have been connected to the Biogenesis of America clinic in Miami.
Jesus Montero could be a “player under scrutiny”, according to the report as his name was reported by the Daily News to be found in records from the anti-aging clinic last February.
The Mariners obviously are aware of the latest report but have had no comment as they try to gather more information. According to one official I spoke with, they have yet to hear from MLB regarding this issue.
More from ESPN.com on what could ultimately turn out to be the largest performance-enhancing drug scandal in American history can be found here.
