The Mariners will be managed by bench coach Robby Thompson Monday against the Indians after Eric Wedge was taken to the hospital after suffering a dizzy spell during batting practice.

“He’s fine, he has been evaluated by our doctors, everything looks good, very good,” general manager Jack Zduriencik told the media about an hour after Wedge was helped off the field.

Shortly before the episode Wedge met with the media in the dugout as he does before every game. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary with that session. Zduriencik stressed that Wedge appeared to be fine before he was taken to the hospital.

“What we are doing is we are going to be very cautious about this,” Zduriencik said. “We are going to run him out to the hospital, just to cover all our bases. He’s talking well, he’s fine, everything seems to be normal. Robby will take over tonight and we expect Eric back tomorrow.”
