Mariners trade Brendan Ryan to Yankees

Brendan Ryan is now a Yankee. In the fourth inning of the Mariners’ horrific game against the Astros Tuesday night it was announce that Ryan had been traded to the Yankees for a player to be named later.

With the availability of Derek Jeter up in the air due to continued ankle problems, the Yankees needed some insurance and made the move. The Yankees no doubt know what they are getting in Ryan, who brings a great glove and range but little bat. That glove will most likely be appreciated with what they have seen from that position recently.

Ryan, who was not available to talk after the game as he had already left to join his new team in Baltimore, will not be eligible for the Yankees’ playoff roster should they make the postseason. They are currently two games out of a wild card spot.

I will have more about Ryan on the video blog Wednesday evening.
