Seahawks coach Pete Carroll had updates to share about two key defensive players whose statuses have been in doubt when he joined Brock and Salk for The Pete Carroll Show on Monday morning.
Strong safety Kam Chancellor will miss the rest of the season due to a neck injury, confirming what had been previously reported, and defensive end Cliff Avril is set to undergo a surgery that is disc-related on Tuesday, Carroll said.

Due to the nature of neck injuries, Carroll said “the future is up to” both Chancellor and Avril whether they will continue their playing career.
Chancellor has been out since suffering his injury on Nov. 9 in a game against the Arizona Cardinals. Avril has been out since he suffered his own neck injury on Oct. 1 against the Indianapolis Colts.
In other injury updates, Carroll said both rookie cornerback Shaquill Griffin (concussion) and running back Mike Davis (groin) are expected back for next Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Additionally, rookie running back Chris Carson (leg fracture) has a “chance in the next few weeks that he has a shot to come back” from the Injured Reserve, according to Carroll.
