DETROIT – Felix Herndandez threw his second bullpen since suffering a slightly strained oblique and has declared himself ready to go.
“You can book it Sunday,” he said Thursday after the session.
Felix threw the session in the visitors bullpen an hour before the Mariners’ finale against the Tigers. He threw 58 pitches at what from the press box looked to be high intensity. He gave his final pitch a dramatic flourish, spinning around and hopping while throwing his right arm in the air. He was clearly happy with the session.
Felix, who hasn’t made a start since Sept. 2, wanted to throw a second bullpen before returning to the hill after feeling “too strong” in his first. Basically, he was looking to fine tune his command and feel more comfortable on the mound.
“Felix was back to being Felix today,” pitching coach Carl Willis said before the game. “He was strong, threw all of his pitches for strikes and had great command. The plan is for him to go Sunday in Anaheim.”
