Clayton’s Schooled: The Apple Cup with former WSU great Ryan Leaf

Nov 22, 2017, 4:00 PM

With Apple Cup week here, I caught up with former Washington State quarterback Ryan Leaf on Schooled with the Professor.

Leaf was the perfect Cougar to discuss the WSU-UW rivalry. Leaf recalls his first start against the Huskies in 1995 in great detail, then takes us through the three-year process of getting the Cougars to the point in which they could win the Apple Cup. In 1997, the Leaf-led Cougars beat Brock Huard’s Huskies, won the Pac-10 title and made a trip to the Rose Bowl.

Looking at this Saturday’s game, Leaf gives a great scouting report about current WSU quarterback Luke Falk, whom he respects for his toughness and leadership. Ryan gives an incredible breakdown of the differences of the offense he ran for Mike Price compared to Mike Leach’s Air Raid with the Cougars. Leaf also told us he might have better served himself by staying at Washington State for one more year as opposed to turning pro early.

You can listen to the podcast embedded above, through the 710 ESPN Seattle podcast page, or on your favorite podcast app including iTunes.
