Pete Carroll said he was confident Blair Walsh would have kicked a game-winning field goal on Sunday against Washington if the Seahawks had gotten in position for it.

That confidence will be extended to Seattle’s game at Arizona on Thursday after Seattle’s coach was asked during his weekly show about bringing in other kickers to compete with Walsh this week.

Blair Walsh ready ‘to get back out there’ after missing three kicks

“No, we won’t,” Carroll said Monday to Brock and Salk on 710 ESPN Seattle. “We will not.”

Walsh missed three field goal attempts during Sunday’s game against Washington, all coming in the first half when the wind made things difficult, particularly at the north goal, which is on the open end of CenturyLink Field.

“It was swirling way more early during the game,” Carroll said, “but his kicks were all earlier on.”

As Seattle drove toward what could have been a game-tying field goal attempt in the final minute, Carroll said he didn’t have any misgivings about using Walsh.

“I was counting on him to kick the winner,” Carroll said. “I figured he would have made it and would have gone with him in no hesitation.”

All of Walsh’s misses went wide left, and Carroll said that difficulties extended to the kickoffs as well. But one difficult day didn’t outweigh the rest of Walsh’s work this season as he had missed only one field goal attempt in Seattle’s first seven games.

“He’s 12 for 13 going into the game, guys,” Carroll said. “And that was a hard day and for whatever reason.”
