LISTEN: Brock Huard responds to UCLA head coach Jim Mora

Brock Huard of 710 ESPN Seattle suddenly found his name in the news after UCLA head coach Jim Mora said some pointed things about him in a press conference Monday.

Or as Huard himself put it: “Jim Mora just snapped on me.”

O’Neil: Jim Mora is the coach who refuses to grow up

The reason: Huard was calling UCLA’s loss in Seattle against Washington on ESPN over the weekend, and when Bruins quarterback Josh Rosen came out of the game in the second half after suffering a finger injury, Huard commented about the impression that could leave on NFL scouts.

Mora took offense to those comments, saying “I think it’s ludicrous that anyone would question Josh Rosen’s toughness when they don’t know the nature of his injury.”

Huard told KIRO Radio 97.3 FM’s Dori Monson that he wasn’t judging Rosen’s toughness and was simply trying to relay what may be going through the heads of people like Seahawks general manager John Schneider, who was in attendance at Husky Stadium.

“We knew that there was a hand injury, we knew that (Rosen) was shaking his hand, we knew he was favoring that, and he goes off in the third quarter and we get no update,” Huard said. “That’s what we’re left to try to then talk through, of what this means of one of the top prospects not being able to finish this game.”

Huard said he has since had an exchange through text message with Mora, who despite both being former University of Washington players said during the Monday press conference that he does not consider Huard a friend.

“I reached out to him just to say, ‘Hey, sorry you feel that way about me,'” Huard said. “I’m not going to apologize for anything I said. I’ve got a job to do, as he said, and I’d say all of that again. I didn’t question the kid nor bury the kid. … (Mora) was just disappointed because I didn’t know the injury. Well, OK, then disclose the injury.”

So, would Huard consider things with Mora patched up now?

“There wasn’t much resolution,” Huard said. “He’s still very unhappy with me.”
