The Seahawks had already secured their victory over the Colts when they lost a running back in Chris Carson and then endured a really scary moment in the locker room after the game when Rees Odhiambo was taken to the hospital after he struggled to catch his breath.

Carson suffered an injury to his left ankle when he was tackled with 6 minutes, 26 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

“He hurt it pretty significantly,” coach Pete Carroll said afterward.

Carson was injured when Colts defensive back Nate Hairston came down on top of Carson, pinning Carson’s left leg to the ground. Carson was then pushed over backward, his ankle caught underneath him.

Carson was fitted with an aircast on the field and taken to the locker room by a motorized cart. After the game, there was some initial hope the injury was not as severe as initially feared.

“We had a couple of different reports here,” Carroll said, “but now we do know that he hurt it pretty significantly.”

Carroll declined to be more specific about the nature of the injury.

“We don’t know if he needs surgery, that kind of stuff,” Carroll said. “We don’t know that yet, but it’s significant. So we’ll see.”

Defensive end Cliff Avril left the game with a neck injury, and while he was feeling fine after the game, he will be evaluated going forward. Cornerback Jeremy Lane also suffered a hip injury on the first series of the game and didn’t return.

Odhiambo finished the game after he was hit in the chest during the Colts’ interception return in the third quarter. In the locker room after the game, Odhiambo was struggling to catch his back, and paramedics were summoned. After being tended to for more than 15 minutes in the locker room, he left on a stretcher and was taken to the hospital.

“All of his signs are really stable,” Carroll said when asked about Odhiambo. “He’s really solid and all that. He got hit in the chest and was having a little trouble breathing. They just had to do all the precautionary work to make sure he’s OK.

“I don’t know any more than that to tell you. I don’t know what’s going to happen from there.”
