NEW YORK – Just one month into the season the and Mariners have had their second game rained out. This time the rainout involves actual rain. As miserable as the conditions were in the opener against the Yankees Tuesday night, they are worse today as it has been raining non-stop.
The game has been rescheduled for Monday, June 2 at 4:05 PST.
The forecast for Thursday is better, although there is still a chance for rain. The Yankees will skip David Phelps, who was scheduled to start today, and keep Hiroki Kuroda on his regular turn Thursday. The Mariners will push Roenis Elias to Thursday and Felix Hernandez will pitch Friday in Houston. There is no word as of yet who will start Saturday.
There was some discussion that the two teams could play a doubleheader Thursday but that will not happen as the Mariners would then be playing two doubleheaders in one week, which could be taxing on the bullpen.
