LISTEN: Seahawks rookie RB Chris Carson talks being drafted late and playing in front of the CenturyLink crowd

There were 248 players selected before Chris Carson in the 2017 NFL Draft. In fact, the 249th overall pick was just four spots away from being an undrafted free agent.

Five months after being taken late in the seventh round, though, Carson has found himself atop a list – this time, as a nominee for the NFL Rookie of the Week. The nomination follows a 100-yard performance in the Seahawks’ 12-9 win over the 49ers Sunday.

Carroll on Chris Carson’s home debut: ‘I think we’ve got something here’

Carson joined Bob, Groz and Tom on Wednesday to talk about finding motivation from the draft, playing in front of the crowd at CenturyLink Field, and what he sees from the Titans’ defensive front.

“That’s what drives me,” Carson said of being drafted so late. “Everybody feels like, I feel, that hasn’t been drafted or got drafted late that they should have been drafted higher. So you always have that mindset that, ‘I’m trying to prove somebody wrong,’ you know, trying to make the teams regret not picking them up. That’s always been my mindset. I’ve always had confidence in myself that I belong in this league, and I (can) compete with the best of the best.

“People like Thomas Rawls, who also wasn’t drafted, or Doug Baldwin who wasn’t drafted, those guys are always in my ear, keeping me humble and making sure I push and go hard every play. Having those people around me that’s also in the same situation is definitely beneficial for me.”
