Mike Leake has been exactly what the Mariners have needed him to be in his two starts since being acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals. On Wednesday, they’re hoping he can get them back in front of the Texas Rangers in the American League’s race for the second wild card spot.
Leake will take his 2-0 record with the Mariners into Wednesday’s 5:05 Game 3 in Texas on 710 ESPN Seattle, and the 72-73 M’s would move ahead of the 72-72 Rangers with a win. Both teams are still jockeying with the Royals (72-72) and Angels (73-71) behind current second wild card holder Minnesota (75-69).
M’s beat Rangers 10-3 Tuesday behind Gamel, Seager HRs
In the Mariners’ lineup, Mitch Haniger will be hitting second, Danny Valencia will play first base with Texas lefty Martin Perez on the mound, and center fielder Guillermo Heredia and left field Ben Gamel will round out the order at eighth and ninth, respectively.
