Wide receiver Tyler Lockett is set to make his return to the field in the Seahawks’ season opener against the Packers Sunday.

Lockett has not played since suffering a severe leg injury — a broken tibia and fibula — during a Week 16 loss to the Arizona Cardinals last year.

“Lockett’s ready to go,” Pete Carroll told reporters Wednesday. “We’re doing one day at a time here, but he had a good day Monday, he feels great today, and I’m really fired up for him. He’s had to be patient and he’s not a very patient kid; he’s chomping at the bit. He’s got a good light about him today, he’s ready to go, and we’ll put these days together with the thought that he’s going to be able to play and go and be an integral part of what happens on game day.”

Lockett was on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to start training camp in July and did not play in any preseason games. He was also one of a number of Seahawks players to undergo Regenokine treatment.

On Wednesday, Lockett returned as a full participant to practice. Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said it’s exciting to see the young receiver back on the field.

“It’s great to see him out here practicing,” Bevell said. “It’s such a great comeback for him to be able to come back from just a major injury. It’s a testament to him, a testament to the fortitude that he has, the work ethic, the commitment, the dedication to all of the stuff he has to do that wasn’t even football. So to be able to see him back out on the field and playing at a high level for us right now is really exciting.”
