Mariners notebook: Felix looks to continue his streak

...

Quick notes on tonight’s series opener against Atlanta:

Felix is on the hill and MLB Network in the house to do a feature on the King’s Court. It truly is a unique sight in baseball and is due a little national exposure.

Felix is looking to extend his record streak of consecutive games of seven or more innings with two or fewer runs allowed. For some time now I have believed that we are seeing the best of Felix right now.

Despite this I didn’t think we would ever see him match what he did at the end of his 2010 season, the year he won the Cy Young award. Over the last 10 games that season he put up an ERA of just 0.96. Over his last 10 games this year his ERA is 1.33.

He has allowed fewer hits and walks while striking out seven more batters in one fewer inning in this 10-game streak, however. The hitters line against Felix in 2010 was .160/.233/.244/.478. The line for the last 10 games: .150/.196/.228/.425. As Gary Hill put it on the pregame show, it’s like he is facing nothing but pitchers. It’s a beautiful thing.

Speaking of facing pitchers, Felix has the lowest ERA all-time in interleague play with a minimum of 200 innings pitched at 2.59.

Lineup!

Austin Jackson, 8
Dustin Ackley, 7
Robinson Cano, 4

Kendrys Morales, DH
Kyle Seager, 5
Chris Denorfia, 9
Logan Morrison, 3
Mike Zunino, 2
Chris Taylor, 6

Felix Hernandez

Notes

• Manager Lloyd McClendon was not ready to announce a starter for Sunday but is not ruling out a bullpen start. Taijuan Walker and Erasmo Ramirez are also options.

Michael Saunders had a full workout in the field and batting practice this afternoon and all appeared to go well. The hope is he can be sent out on a rehab assignment Thursday.
