Mariners’ Scott Servais expecting Robinson Cano, Guillermo Heredia to be day to day

It appears the Mariners have dodged not just one but two bullets heading into a series this weekend against the New York Yankees that has huge implications for their playoff chances.
Manager Scott Servais told 710 ESPN Seattle’s Brock and Salk that he is expecting that both Robinson Cano and Guillermo Heredia will be day to day after each suffered injuries in the Mariners’ 9-6 win over the Braves on Wednesday. Cano, who left the game in Atlanta with a hamstring issue, and Heredia, who was lifted after being hit by a pitch in the forearm, were both set to be evaluated Thursday during the Mariners’ day off in New York.

“I know (both) guys felt OK yesterday; we’ll see when they get in the ballpark today,” Servais said. “It sounds like, like I said after the game (Wednesday), they’re gonna be day to day. I know Robbie’s a little bit sore with the hamstring and hopefully Heredia’s just got a contusion in the forearm, and hopefully they’ll be available tonight but they may need a day or so.”
While the Mariners have other options to take over in the outfield if Heredia needs to sit out, the potential of losing Cano for even a game at this point is worrisome, as Seattle’s No. 3 hitter has 19 homers, 78 RBIs and a .797 OPS this season.
“Any time there’s a chance you lose Robbie for a day or two, it’s certainly concerning,” Servais said. “He’s such a big part of our team and our offense, but you know, we gotta do the right thing. Hopefully he can move around OK today, but I just have to wait and see until we get in today.”
