Rookie Ethan Pocic has been all right for the Seahawks so far.

That’s not a critique of his play, but a commentary on his alignment first as a right tackle and then last week at right guard. But after the season-ending injury to George Fant, coach Pete Carroll was asked about whether Seattle will consider Pocic at left tackle.

“Could be,” Carroll said. “He’s played left tackle in the past. He’s done everything. He’s already done a little bit of everything for us. That’s a possibility.”

But apparently not anymore. At least not after the acquisition of Matt Tobin from Philadelphia.

Offensive line coach Tom Cable listed off the Seahawks’ options at that position after Tuesday’s practice.

“You’ve got Rees (Odhiambo) who will go out there on Friday. You got the kid we just traded for, Matt Tobin. You’ve got Luke Joeckel. So I think the fact (is) that we have three options.”

That list did not include Pocic. Pocic is a second-round pick out of LSU. He stated 27 games at center in college, but has played mostly at right tackle in training camp. He played two quarters of left tackle in his college career.

When asked if Pocic would be a consideration at left tackle, Cable was blunt: “No.”

As for why Joeckel doesn’t slide over to left tackle, the position he was drafted to play in Jacksonville, Cable said the desire is to keep from making too many changes up front.

“My wish, my want is to try to keep as much of it intact as possible,” Cable said, “So if anyone is saying, ‘Well, why don’t they just move Joeckel out there?’ Well do you remember last year? If you just go back 12 months I think there was too much of that. Nothing we could really handle then, just had to be that way. But this year we have choices. We have the opportunity to keep as much of it intact as we can and we’ll do that going forward.”
