Christian Bergman has been recalled from Triple-A Tacoma while Andrew Moore has been optioned back to the Rainiers ahead of Saturday’s Game 3 between the Mariners and Angels at 6:10 on 710 ESPN Seattle.
Moore was up with the Mariners only for Friday’s 6-5 loss to Los Angeles, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk over 1 2/3 innings of relief. Bergman, who started eight games and made one relief appearance earlier this season for Seattle, will take over the long relief role.
Seattle’s offensive lineup is fairly standard against Angels right-hander J.C. Ramirez, with Jean Segura hitting leadoff, Yonder Alonso in the No. 2 spot, and the outfield being comprised of Ben Gamel, Jarrod Dyson and Leonys Martin from left to right.
In other Mariners news, Mitch Haniger will begin a rehab assignment with Tacoma on Saturday night, serving as the designated hitter. He’s been out since being hit in the face by a pitch on July 29.
The Mariners enter the day tied with the Angels and Tampa Bay Rays at a half-game behind Minnesota for the American League’s second wild-card spot.
The Mariners will honor team legend and current hitting coach Edgar Martinez by retiring his No. 11 in a pregame ceremony. The full ceremony will be broadcast during the pregame show on 710 ESPN Seattle, which begins at 5.
