RENTON – Technically, Thomas Rawls returned to the Seahawks last year.

First, he made it back from the broken ankle he suffered in December 2015, getting back on the field in time for Seattle’s regular-season opener against Miami.

Then, Rawls had to return from a hairline fracture in his lower leg suffered in Week 2, which caused him to miss seven games.

While he may have recovered, he was never truly back.

“He never got rolling last year,” coach Pete Carroll said.

Rawls rushed for 830 yards in 13 games as a rookie in 2015, averaging 5.6 yards per carry. He gained 349 yards in nine games last season, averaging 3.2 yards per carry.

And the ferocity of Rawls’ start to this training camp has underscored how ready he is for his third season.

“He seems to be fully recovered,” Carroll said, “going throughout the offseason and into camp, all of that stuff has worked in his favor. He looks great. He really is back to the form he showed a couple of years ago, and we’re all really excited about that and he is, too.”
