RENTON – Seahawks coach Pete Carroll cleared up what has been something of a mystery over the last week when he said Monday that running back Eddie Lacy has met all of his weight requirements so far.
“Yep. Yep,” Carroll said. “Perfectly on track.”
The one-year contract that Lacy signed with Seattle over the offseason includes $385,000 in incentives tied to his weight, according to ESPN. Lacy can earn $55,000 each time he hits a target weight during seven weigh-ins, the latest of which was reportedly scheduled for last week, when Lacy had to be 250 pounds or below.
His agency, SportsTrust Advisors, announced on Twitter when Lacy made weight during his first two weigh-ins, which, according to ESPN’s Field Yates, were 255 pounds in May and 250 in June. But there was no announcement last week after his scheduled weigh-in.
An email to Lacy’s agency asking for confirmation that he hit his latest weight target has not been returned.
According to Yates, the next target weight is 245 pounds for September, October, November and December.
“Eddie is doing great,” Carroll said when asked what he’s seen from Lacy since the pads have come on in Seahawks camp. “He hasn’t missed anything. He’s been very attentive to everything that we’re doing. He can catch the football well, we know he can run thick and heavy. You don’t get to see all of that right now.
“He’s in good shape, he’s done everything we’ve asked him, he’s done a great job. It’s going to take us a while, but as we get to these games, everyone is going to get the football. We’ll just see how it feels with different guys running because we have a lot of diversity in the running back spot as well.”
