The Mariners will look for left-hander Ariel Miranda to help them get their first win of the season against the Yankees, and there’s reason to believe he’ll give them a chance.
Entering the 6:10 game on 710 ESPN Seattle, the Yankees are one of the worst-performing teams against left-handed pitching in the majors. When facing southpaws this year, New Yorks ranks 27th out of the 30 MLB teams in batting average (.229), 25th in OPS (.692), are is tied for 19th in runs scored (101). Particularly challenged against lefty pitching are All-Star catcher Gary Sanchez (.200/.302/.382 slash line) and leadoff man Brett Gardner (.176/.282/.311).
Bob, Groz & Tom: Did M’s get enough for Tyler O’Neill?
Miranda, who holds lefty swingers to a .211 batting average and .601 OPS, will still want to be careful around emerging superstar Aaron Judge, who has seven home runs in 70 at-bats against left-handers.
