The Mariners have recalled right-handed pitcher Sam Gaviglio to start Tuesday’s 5:10 game against the Astros on 710 ESPN Seattle.
To make room for Gaviglio on the active roster, Seattle optioned outfielder Boog Powell to Triple-A Tacoma.

Gaviglio was sent to the Rainiers prior to the All-Star break so that he could remain in turn on the mound, making one start for Tacoma in that span. The 27-year-old rookie is 3-4 with a 4.31 ERA this year for the M’s.
Powell, 24, heads back to Triple-A after his third stint with Seattle this year. He is 7 for 36 (.194) with six runs, six walks and two RBIs in 23 games for the Mariners.
The Mariners will again go without Mitch Haniger in the starting lineup. Seattle’s usual right fielder hasn’t played since injuring a finger on his right hand on a bunt attempt on Saturday.
