Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano has been added to the American League All-Star team as an injury replacement, the club announced on Friday.

This marks the eighth career All-Star selection for Cano and his third in four seasons with the Mariners. He’ll join teammate Nelson Cruz for the All-Star Game on July 11 at Marlins Park in Miami.

Stecker: Cano and Cruz are banged up but pressing on

As Mariners manager Scott Servais and broadcaster Mike Blowers have argued, Cano had a strong case to be included on the original All-Star roster. Through 76 games this season, he’s hitting .279 with 17 home runs, 13 doubles, 60 RBIs, a .335 on-base percentage and a .489 slugging percentage.

Cano was among seven replacement players added to the All-Star Game. Angels outfielder Mike Trout and Yankees second baseman Starlin Castro are both injured.
