Brock and Salk: What do the Mariners have now in Felix Hernandez?
Jun 27, 2017, 5:00 AM
Felix Hernandez made his first start in nearly two months on Friday, pitching six solid-but-not-spectacular innings in the Mariners’ 13-3 win over Houston. He allowed three runs (all earned) on eight hits, struck out six, walked one and worked his way out of the only significant jam he encountered.
Mike Salk thought the performance was OK but considered it the latest indication that Felix has lost his dominance.
“It’s hard to see him not be one of the great pitchers in the game,” Salk said. “He’s not. Felix is not one of the great pitchers in baseball anymore.”
In the video above, Salk and Brock Huard react to Felix’s performance and what caliber of a pitcher they think he is at this stage of his career.
