Expect to see Mike Zunino in the lineup for Sunday afternoon’s series finale between the Mariners and Astros, because he’ll get Saturday night’s Game 2 off.
Carlos Ruiz will take over the catching duties as the red-hot Zunino will get a rest during Saturday’s 7:10 game on 710 ESPN Seattle. The 38-year-old Ruiz is hitting .206 with a home run and seven RBIs in 30 games this year.
Also of note, Danny Valencia has been scratched from the initial lineup, with Taylor Motter taking over at first base. Valencia has dealt with a nagging wrist injury during the season, though it is unknown if that is the reason for him being held out of Saturday’s game.
Rookie Sam Gaviglio gets the start on the mound for Seattle, while Houston will go with 23-year-old phenom Lance McCullers Jr., who is returning from a short stay on the disabled list due to lower back discomfort. McCullers missed just one start with the injury.
