The Mariners open a four-game series against the Tigers at Safeco Field tonight, which begins a stretch in which they’ll play 16 of 19 at home before the All-Star break.
The lineup they’re going with against Detroit right-hander Anibal Sanchez includes Ben Gamel leading off and playing right field.
With Jean Segura on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma and still a few days away from returning, Taylor Motter is playing shortstop and hitting ninth. Mitch Haniger is not in the Mariners’ lineup for the first time since being activated off the disabled list on June 11.
Haniger out of the lineup tonight. Just a normal day off according to Servais.
