The Mariners will have rookie right-handed pitcher Max Povse in the bullpen for the final game of their three-game set in Texas at 12:05 on 710 ESPN Seattle.
The 23-year-old Povse was selected from Double-A Arkansas on Sunday morning, with fellow righty Rob Whalen being optioned to Triple-A Tacoma. Povse and Whalen were acquired from the Atlanta Braves in the same trade last offseason.
To make room for Povse on the 40-man roster, the Mariners designated left-handed pitcher Dillon Overton for assignment.
In nine appearances this year with Arkansas, including eight starts, the 6-foot-8 Povse is 3-2 with a 3.46 ERA, 36 strikeouts and 14 walks. This is Povse’s first tour with the Mariners, and his first appearance will be his MLB debut.
