Mariners 2017 MLB Draft tracker: A look at every Seattle pick

The MLB Draft started Monday, continues with rounds 3-10 on Tuesday, and commences Wednesday with the final 30 rounds. We’ll be updating after each Mariners pick with a look at every player below.

Monday

FIRST ROUND

No. 17 overall: Evan White, 1B, University of Kentucky (Story)

A Golden Spikes semifinalist, White hit .373 with 48 runs, 24 doubles, a triple, 10 home runs and 41 RBIs as a junior in 2017. He earnd second-team All-SEC and All-SEC Defensive Team honors in both 2016 and 2017. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound former All-Ohio Baseball Player of the Year hits right-handed and throws left-handed.

SECOND ROUND

No. 55: Sam Carlson, RHP, Burnsville (Minn.) HS (Story)

The 2017 Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year, Carlson had allowed just two earned runs over 34 innings as a senior for a 0.53 ERA. He struck out 53 and walked 16.

Tuesday

THIRD ROUND

No. 93: Wyatt Mills, RHP, Gonzaga University

A second-team All-WCC selection as a senior in 2017, Mills racked up 12 saves and 58 strikeouts in 22 relief appearances for the Zags. The 22-year-old Spokane native maintained a 1.79 ERA and walked just four over 40 1/3 innings.

FOURTH ROUND

No. 123: Seth Elledge, RHP, Dallas Baptist University

A second straight relief pitcher pick by Seattle, Elledge made 13 saves as a junior in 2017 for the Patriots, holding a 2.22 ERA with 42 strikeouts and 13 walks over 22 appearances (31 1/3 innings). A Frisco, Texas, native, he spent the 2016 summer with the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod League.

FIFTH ROUND

No. 153: David Banuelos, C, Long Beach State University

A Baseball America first-team All-America selection in 2017, the 21-year-old Banuelos hit .289 with seven home runs, 29 RBIs and 31 runs scored in 59 games. One of three finalists for the Johnny Bench Award, the Ontario, Calif., native is regarded as a great defender with a strong arm behind the plate.

SIXTH ROUND

No. 183: Oliver Jaskie, LHP, University of Michigan

Named first-team All-Big Ten, the 6-3, 210-pound southpaw earned player of the week honors from both Collegiate Baseball News (April 3) and Perfect Game/Rawlings (May 8) as a junior in 2017. Jaskie went 8-3 with a 3.77 ERA, one shutout, 119 strikeouts and 31 walks in 16 starts (93 innings) for the Wolverines. He pitched in the Cape Cod League in 2016 for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, going 2-0 with a 0.99 ERA (three earned runs in 27 1/3 innings) with 27 strikeouts and seven walks in six games (five starts).

SEVENTH ROUND

No. 213: Max Roberts, LHP, Wabash Valley (Ill.) College

Roberts went 10-1 with a 1.44 ERA, 98 strikeouts and 28 walks in 17 games (13 starts) this year, allowing just two home runs.

EIGHTH ROUND

No. 243: Billy Cooke, OF, Coastal Carolina University

Cooke had a strong junior season with the Chanticleers, winning Sun Belt Player of the Year by hitting .353 with 10 home runs, 38 RBIs, 52 runs scored, 21 stolen bases and a .479 on-base percentage that ranked 15th in the NCAA. The 5-10, 175-pounder throws and hits right-handed.

NINTH ROUND

No. 273: Jorge Benitez, LHP, Leadership Christian Academy (Puerto Rico)

Checking in at 6-3 and 160 pounds, the southpaw Benitez was a 2017 Rawlings-Perfect Game honorable mention All-American.

10TH ROUND

No. 303: Randy Bell, RHP, University of South Alabama

As a senior in 2017 with the Gamecocks, Bell went 7-3 with a 3.69 ERA, 96 strikeouts and 21 walks over 16 starts, two of which were complete games. He was the 2015 Spalding Baseball/National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore at Hinds Community College in Raymond, Miss., going 12-0 record with a 2.37 ERA, 63 strikeouts and 12 walks in 16 appearances.
