Video: Mariners’ Mike Zunino hammers gigantic grand slam

Safeco Field has seen its fair share of moonshots since it opened during the 1999 season, though perhaps none quite like the one Mariners catcher Mike Zunino unleashed on Saturday night.
Zunino came about as close as any player ever has to hitting a ball completely out of the stadium and onto Royal Brougham Way during a game, crushing a 441-foot blast for a grand slam to put the Mariners up 9-1 over the Tampa Bay Rays in the bottom of the fifth inning. As you can see in the video above, the ball found its way into the final rows in the upper deck in the left field bleachers.

That wasn’t the only thing Zunino did in Seattle’s 9-2 victory. He had already singled and doubled, and the grand slam put him at a career-high seven RBIs.
After a rough start to the 2017 season that saw the 26-year-old Zunino get sent down to Triple-A Tacoma for a dozen games, he appears to be heating up at the plate. Though he went 0 for 3 with a walk on Friday, he had two hits in each of the three games prior to that.
